What you need to know---Annual Exams
Get a flu shot. Get a pneumonia vaccine at the time of diagnosis of diabetes; revaccinate if 65 years or older and it has been more than 5 years since you received the vaccination. Get a tetanus shot every 10 years.
Tuberculosis test once after diagnosis of diabetes (unless previous positive test).
Get a dilated eye exam. Be sure the doctor uses eye drops to see the back of your eye. Diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness.
Get a dental exam. Dental problems and high blood sugar go hand in hand.
Get a complete foot exam, including monofilament testing for neuropathy.
