Community Garden/Horticulture Program
Mission statement: "Renewing the connection between our people and the earth."
The Community Garden Program within the horticulture department is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Chickasaw citizens by providing the tools and training to ensure Chickasaw people have the opportunity to attain healthy and nutritious vegetables.
The Community Gardens are located on several acres of farmland. The Horticulture Department currently includes a 10-acre traditional garden, 160 raised vegetable and herb beds and 9,000 feet of greenhouses. Flowering plants, vegetable plants and hydroponics vegetables are also grown in greenhouses. Plans for expansion are in the future.
Chickasaw employees and Chickasaw youth are trained to plant, grow and harvest several thousand pounds of vegetables each growing season to take to Farmer’s Markets and to all Chickasaw Senior Sites.
