The Chickasaw Cultural Center will host its first-ever Fall Festival 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.

Several fun-filled events are scheduled in the Center’s Traditional Village, which consists of replicas of Chickasaw homes from Southeastern homelands.

The Festival focuses on the traditional Chickasaw foods with corn roasting, food arbors, a Pashofa cook-off and food tasting throughout the day.

Pashofa is a traditional Chickasaw dish, consisting of corn and pork.

In addition, JoAnn Ellis and Vicki May Penner, co-authors of the newly released Ilimpa'chi' (We're Gonna Eat!): A Chickasaw Cookbook, will be available on-hand for book signing.

Ellis and Penner selected favorite recipes, some of which are translated into the Chickasaw language, for the first Chickasaw Press cookbook. The book also includes a glossary of Chickasaw cooking terms and phrases from traditions of food and family by Chickasaw writers and fluent speakers.

Other festivities include a pumpkin patch, storytelling, stomp dancing demonstration as well as Chickasaw language and horticulture booths.

Several other events are planned for the upcoming months at the Cultural Center, including Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.

The Chickasaw Cultural Center is located at 867 Charles Cooper Memorial Road in Sulphur, Okla. For more information, please visit www.chickasawculturalcenter.com or call (580) 622-7130.
