Basic acting for the stage classes for children, teens, and adults will begin Tuesday, February 12. The classes will be conducted from 6 - 8 p.m. at the McSwain Theater, 130 West Main, Ada, and will meet each Tuesday evening for six weeks.
Registration deadline is February 8.
The classes are sponsored by the Chickasaw Nation Division of Arts and Humanities.
"We are pleased to offer acting for the stage classes and plan to offer intermediate and advanced classes for those who wish to continue, as well as classes on head shots and resumes, film acting, and creative writing," said Lona Barrick, division administrator. "Our goal is to offer classes in all arts – visual, theatre, film, music, and writing. The classes will be fun and interesting. We encourage anyone who has interest in acting for the stage to participate."
Week one lessons will introduce students to acting areas, terminology, and projection. Weeks two and three will cover improvisation, building a character and auditioning techniques.
Weeks four and five will cover monologues and scene work. A scene will be assigned for memorization and will be rehearsed.
During week six, students will perform the scene for family and friends. Materials will be appropriate for all ages. Certificates will be awarded.
The class is limited to 10 students, age eight and up, to allow one-on-one instruction. Should there be a waiting list, other class times may be offered. Fees for non-Chickasaws will be $10 per session for a total of $60.
Class instructor is Debra Collins Bailey, who holds a Master's Degree in performing arts and has taught acting in a college setting, for talent agencies in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, as well as privately.
