Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate has been nominated for a NAMMY (Native American Music Award) in the Best Instrumental Recording category for his recording with the San Fransisco Symphony and Chorus.

Public voting is now open for the NAMMY awards. Anyone can cast a vote to support Tate by visiting http://www.nativeamericanmusicawards.com/.

Voting deadline is Saturday, Oct. 3.

Award winners are decided by a combination of the votes of NAMA national membership and the general public and will be announced at the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards Oct. 3 in Niagra Falls, New York.

Through his compositions, Tate strives to combine the Native American voice into classical music.

His collaborative album, released in March of 2008, marked the first time a major American Symphony Orchestra and an American Indian composer have collaborated to record orchestral works.
