Chickasaw Nation to host suicide awareness walk in Ardmore

The Chickasaw Nation is hosting suicide awareness walk in memory of those who have died by suicide.

The Ardmore "Love Lives On – Suicide Survivor Walk and Resource Fair" will take place 5 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6 at Mountain View Mall located at 1211 N Commerce St.

Individuals interested in participating in the walk are encouraged to register by 5 p.m. Aug. 30.

Registered participants will receive t-shirt, bracelet and a remembrance candle. Snacks and water will also be provided.

The walk strives to increase awareness about suicide as a public health issue as well as offer hope to the individuals and families affected by suicide.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions, more than 34,000 people die by suicide nationwide every year.

The event is organized by the tribal Division of Health Meth/Suicide Prevention Initiative and Behavioral Health Department.
