Television viewers all across Oklahoma and surrounding states will have the opportunity to watch "Pearl," the award-winning film produced by the Chickasaw Nation, 8 p.m. CST Saturday, June 11 when it makes its television premiere on the OETA Movie Club hosted by B.J. Wexler.

The family-friendly film focuses on the exceptional teen years of the late Eula “Pearl” Carter Scott, a Chickasaw who earned her pilot's license at the tender age of 13 in 1928. By 14, she is flying her father to business appointments and wowing air show audiences with her aerobatic maneuvers all over Oklahoma.

A repeat telecast of the movie is scheduled 11 p.m. Friday June 17.

Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby said the story of the Chickasaw aviatrix was a natural for the tribe's first feature-length film project.

"Pearl is a legendary figure in the history of Oklahoma, the world of aviation and in the Chickasaw Nation," said Gov. Anoatubby. "She was a dynamic, determined and caring individual who exemplifies many of the finest qualities of Chickasaw people. She was a unique individual who had a profoundly positive impact on everyone she met."

“Bringing her life story to millions of OETA viewers will help preserve that impact for generations to come."

With OETA's statewide network of four transmitting stations and 15 translator stations, more than 1.8 million viewers tune into OETA on a weekly basis.

“I am so pleased that OETA will be able to share this biographical film with our statewide audience,” said Bill Thrash, OETA Station Manager.
