Chickasaw Nation Announces Special Election Candidates

Filing period for Special Election, ended on October 13, 2006. Chickasaw Nation Election Commission announces that thirteen candidates are seeking Legislative Seat 3, Pontotoc District in the Chickasaw Nation.

On September 20, 2006 the Chickasaw Tribal legislature, seated in session, declared that a vacancy creates an emergency (due to the death of Mooniene Ogee) and asked the Governor Bill Anoatubby to call a special election.

Those filing for the vacant seat include Melvin Burris, Stonewall, Robert Perry, Ada, Jeannie Lunsford, Stratford, Dr. Debra Vaughn, Purcell,  Russ Stick, Ada, , Nancy Elliot, Ada, Katie Case, Ada, Kay Colbert-Hall, Ada, Carolyn Hill Nimmo, Ada, Matthew Morgan, Ada, Norma Jean Cravatt-Prince, Pontotoc, Patricia A. Greenwood Cox, Ada and Heath Allison, Ada.

Registered Chickasaw voters in the Pontotoc District will be voting by absentee ballot. Ballots must be returned to the Chickasaw Nation Election Commission no later than 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday November 14, 2006.

The Chickasaw Election Commission shall conduct and supervise the ballot counting at the Chickasaw Community Center located in a Ada on November 14, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Results of the Special Election shall be announced the same day.
