The Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police is offering young Native Americans an opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement at the second annual Police Youth Academy, set June 29- July 2 at Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Headquarters, 1130 West Main, Ada, Okla.
Hours for the academy are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
During the four day academy, skills such as CPR, communication, marching, handcuffing, and searching will be taught. Students will tour the Pontotoc County jail and see a K-9 officer in action. Students will also learn about crime prevention and of the daily challenges faced within the tribal law enforcement community.
The academy is open to 40 Native American youth, 13-17 years old, who will be selected based on three letters of recommendation, and a completed application. Chickasaw youth will be given first priority for the academy.
