The Chickasaw Nation Youth Services Department is currently accepting applications for 2007 Youth HELPS Program scholarships.
Sixteen collegiate/vocational scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors at the department’s annual student appreciation night ceremony. The goal is to acknowledge and assist students who are continuing educational careers by attending a college, university or vocational institution. The scholarships may be used by the students in any manner related to their educational expenses.
Three scholarships for $500 each will be awarded per legislative district for student use at a college or university. One scholarship for $300 will be awarded per legislative district for student use at a vocational-technical institution.
To be eligible, the following must be submitted:
- a completed application form
- a copy of student’s Chickasaw Nation citizenship card
- an official high school transcript verifying a 3.2 GPA or above
- a recommendation from high school superintendent or principal
- an autobiography which includes complete name, date of birth, parent/legal guardian name(s), educational background, college/university selected and degree choice or vocational institution selected and field of interest (must be typed and double-spaced)
- student essay (500 words) outlining personal accomplishments, honors, awards, goals and community and tribal involvement (must be typed and double-spaced)
Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis and applications must be received by Friday, March 30, 2007 at 5 p.m. for consideration.
