Chickasaw Nation elected officials take oath of office

ADA, Okla. – Six Chickasaw Nation officials elected during the July 31 general election took the oath of office Monday, Oct. 1 at the Chickasaw Nation Community Center.

Incumbent legislators Toby Perkins, David Woerz, Nancy Elliott and Shana Tate Hammond each reaffirmed their oath of office.

Incumbent Supreme Court Justice Barbara Ann Smith also reaffirmed her oath during the ceremony.

Newly-elected legislator Scott Wood, Tishomingo, was sworn in as representative of Tishomingo District Seat 1.

Chickasaw Nation Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Colbert administered the oath.

Mr. Perkins and Mrs. Elliott, both of Ada, will continue to represent Pontotoc District Seats 1 and 2 respectively. Mr. Woerz and Mrs. Hammond, both of Ardmore, continue as representatives of Pickens District Seats 1 and 4 respectively.

Justice Smith, Newcastle, was reaffirmed to Seat 2 on the Chickasaw Nation Supreme Court.

Each legislator is elected to a three-year term. Chickasaw Nation Supreme Court Justices also serve a three-year term.

The Chickasaw Nation Legislature is comprised of 13 members, elected from the Chickasaw Nation's four legislative districts: Panola, Pickens, Pontotoc and Tishomingo.

The Supreme Court consists of three Supreme Court Justices elected by popular vote by qualified voters of the Chickasaw Nation.
