ARDMORE, Okla. -- Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby and dozens of tribal legislators, citizens and employees were on hand for groundbreaking ceremonies for a new wellness center Friday, May 28 at 911 Locust.
Physical therapy and a number of other services will be offered at the 9,200 square foot facility, which is expected to serve hundreds of area residents.
Trained staff will be on duty to offer instruction, consultation and assistance with free weights, strength training machines, treadmills and a variety of cardiovascular training equipment.
"This facility is a part of our ongoing effort to assist our citizens in taking measures to help prevent diabetes and other diseases that can have such devastating health affects," said Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby. "The components of this facility join an overwhelming number of programs and services designed to enhance the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people."
Almost 1,600 square feet of the facility will be dedicated to martial arts and aerobics classes led by well qualified instructors.
Classes, equipment and other services will be provided free of charge to Chickasaw citizens, employees and their families.
Midway Construction of Ardmore has been contracted to build the center, which was designed by Tim Wynn and Associates.
